Karlovac is only half an hour driva from Zagreb, on the crossroads of traffic ways for Rijeka, Senj and Plitvice-Split. It is the centre of Pokuplje with 59.999 inhabitansand the center of the perfect's district. It is our only town lying on four rivers: Korana, Kupa, Dobra and Mrežnica.
It was founded in 1579 by Karlo von Habsburg, as a stronghold supposed to defineed the area from the Turks. Its military function was later pushed aside by the trading one; it is right on the traffic way oby the river Kupa, from Panonia to the Ariatic and vice versa.
The industrial function is dominant now. Karlovac grew considerably out of the hexagonal fortress which is still the business center and a touristic attraction of the city.
The barracks and the armory (1784) deserve to be mentioned as well as the early baroque church of the Holy Trinty (1683-1692) with the Franciscan Monastery from XVIIth century where the museum is situated. The museum of the city of Karlovac is in the frankopan Palace, built from the XVII-XVIII century.
At the outskirts, the town is dominated by the fortress Dubovac, dating from the Xlllth century which has been renewed and made into a hotel. Karlovac offers all kinds of services to the touristic in transit, offers good fishing and hunting recreation on the rivers with a rich gastronomic offer from numerous objects.
