On the south-west coast of the island of Krk, the Mediterranean island closest to Europe, lies the town of Krk - "the glorious city of Krk" as mentioned in an ancient inscription found in this town.

Visitors can admire the 13th century Fankopan fortification with its towers, situated right at the seafront; not to be missed are also the 11th century Romanesque Church of Our Lady and the Town Hall dating from the 16th century. Monastery atriums fortified stone walls, Romanesque arches of St. Margaret's crypt and marble amboss of the Chatedral present unique scenery for first-class artistic performances that take place during the summer months as part of the Krk Summer Festival, one of the oldest of the kind in Croatia.
