Croatian wine, like most European wine, has a history dating back before the rise of the Roman Empire. Domestic brandies along with foreign alcoholic beverages, are available in Northern Croatia: travarica (herb brandy), sljivovica (plum brandy), orahovaca, (nut brandy)… There are many kinds of wine. Dingac, the red wine from Peljesac, reigns over them, followed in suit by the grk from Korcula. Other red wines are worthy of mention, though: the ones from Vis, Hvar, Kastela and Istria. In the northern parts of the country, the content of alcohol in wine is less, and the acidity is greater. Theses are predominantly white wines with a pleasant, sweet aroma. The most notable are: grasevina, rhiesling, traminac, pinot, sauvignon, pljesivica, etc.
