Bijele Samarske cliffs

The cliff groups of Bijele and Samarske Stijene are located in the central part of Velika Kapela, west of Jasenak. They are the most interesting and attractive  ones in all of Gorski Kotar. The Bijele Stijene (White Cliffs) reach an altitude of 1,335 m, and the Samarske Stijene are at most 1,302 m tall.

They are separated by the 200 m less elevated  forest-covered Crna Draga. The foothils of the Stijene are easily accessible by means of forest roads that pass nearby (Jasenak-Mrkopalj and Mrkopalj-Novi Vinodolski), but movement along them without greater difficulty can be managed only by those who are adept at mountain climbing. Mountaineers, naturalists and other passers-by can take advantage of the small mountain cabin that was erected in the midst of the Bijele Stijene.
