The nature park of Lonjsko Polje is situated in the area between the Sava and Lonja rivers. It is one of the rare preserved flood areas of Europe. Due to diverse and multifarious natural virtues it is significant for the European natural heritage. Villages situated on both sides of the Sava river have retained their original environments and folk wooden architecture. Most of the natural park (60%) consists of lowland oak forests and field ash.
Grazing land and heather cover 30% of the area, and water and arable land (in the dry period) account for 10%. This natural park harbors one of the greatest concentrations of white storks (580 pairs, of which there are 51 pair in the village of Cigoc). In 1994, Cigoc was pronounced the European village of the stork.
