Papuk nature park

papukIn the area of Park of Nature Papuk preserved are most important remains of cultural heritage connected with two historical periods, prehistoric period and middle age period.

In relation to majority of European countries, Croatia is distinguished by the diversity of ecological systems and habitats, which is mirrored through the wealth and diversity of plants, mushrooms, and animals, and a huge contribution to this is mountain of Papuk. The peculiarities of Papuk represent the important part of biological and landscape values in the area of Slavonia.

Papuk, a mountain in the region of Slavonia, on the northern and north-western border of the Pozeska Valley in Slavonia; the highest peak Papuk (954 m). Springs and sources of many water bodies (the Cadavica, the Karasica, the Pakra). Forest vegetation (oak, beech). Vineyards on the southern slopes of the foothills. The road Cacinci Velika Pozega leads over the Perivoj peak (725 m). The area of Papuk is designated a nature park (park prirode), a kind of protected area in Croatia.

There are several mountain lodges and tourist facilities on Papuk: the mountain lodge Lapjak (335 m) 3 km from Velika, the thermal spa Toplice in the vicinity of Velika, the mountain hut Trisnjica, 7 km from the Lapjak lodge, the facilities of the mountain rescue team on Nevoljas, the ski-lift above Jezerce, the mountain lodge Jankovac (475 m) on the northern slopes of Papuk.
